Saint Simons Island, Georgia, USA-headquartered SeaPak Shrimp & Seafood Co. has launched the Lighthouse Selections range of “lighter” shrimp-based frozen ready meals in response to growing consumer demand for healthier food options. Each of the three offerings is gluten-free, contains fewer ingredients than traditional frozen seafood products, and is free of trans fats, additives and preservatives.
“While taste still reigns supreme for consumers, people of all ages and life stages today are focusing more than ever on where their products come from, what ingredients are in them, and how they are made,” said Daryl Miller, the company’s director of marketing. “SeaPak’s new Lighthouse Selections lineup allows us to address this growing consumer preference, while remaining true to the high standards for taste and quality that the brand has established over the past 67 years.”
The line features sustainably certified, farm-raised shrimp that can be grilled, baked or sautéed. The Lighthouse Selections products feature on-trend seasoning, contain under 180 calories and less than 8 grams of fat per serving, and can be quickly prepared.
Distribution of the three Lighthouse Selections offerings – Shrimp & Veggie Griller, Creamy Garlic Shrimp, and Marinated Shrimp – began this month. They are now available at selected retail stores for a suggested retail price of $8.99.
SeaPak is ranked as the leading retail brand in the frozen specialty seafood category. In addition to shrimp, its product line runs the gamut from clam strips and stuffed clams to Maryland-style crab cakes, fish bites and salmon burgers.
Approximately 50% of SeaPak seafood is farm-raised, with 70% of aquaculture production coming from 2-Star BAP-certified suppliers. This guarantees that producers have addressed environmental, social responsibility and animal welfare issues, as well as assured food safety and traceability throughout their operations. The goal is to achieve 100% BAP-certification of seafood input by 2017.
Processing of 85 percent of SeaPak’s shrimp products takes place at a company-owned plant in Brownsville, Texas, which is certified by the British Retail Consortium (BRC), a global retail authority that establishes benchmarks for best quality and safety practices within the food industry. The remaining 15% is produced at plants in Ecuador and Thailand.
