On March 6 Stavis Seafoods will inaugurate a 40,000-square-foot warehouse approximately 15 miles northeast of Boston in Peabody, Massachusetts, to serve as its primary coldstore for a broad line of frozen seafood products. The facility, situated just off Interstate 95 at One Technology Drive, will enable the company to put most of its frozen inventory under one roof, thus improving order fulfillment and warehouse efficiencies.
“Stavis Peabody represents a significant upgrade for us and is part of a larger growth strategy,” said CEO Richard Stavis. “It provides more freezer space, more pick faces, more docks and better accessibility than we have ever had. These improvements will allow us to pick and stage orders more quickly. It also gives customers an additional location near Boston to pick up orders, thus alleviating congestion at our Fresh Center and improving service levels and cut off times across the board.”
The Stavis Fresh Center, located at Boston’s Marine Industrial Park, will continue to serve as the main facility for non-frozen seafood. Frozen and fresh seafood orders can be put up, wrapped and labeled to be ready for pick up at either location on the same day.
Elsewhere, in Florida the Stavis Miami facility has been upgraded to include processing capabilities. In addition, the sales staff has been bolstered to better serve the growing market in the US Southeast.
Stavis also has finalized plans for a new Boston-based headquarters and processing plant at the Massport Marine Terminal, with groundbreaking scheduled to take place this spring. A press release issued by the company says it will be “the most technologically advanced and environmentally friendly seafood processing facility in Massachusetts, and represents an investment in excess of $40 million at the Port of Boston, making it the largest, seafood-related, private investment in the Port’s history.”
Established in 1929, Stavis Seafoods ships more than 37,000,000 pounds of frozen and fresh seafood annually. Importing from more than 50 countries, its 1,000-plus product assortment literally covers the waterfront from shrimp and lobster to calamari, clams, oysters, crab, salmon, tilapia, halibut, hake and much more. Brands include Bos’n, Boston Pride, Foods From The Sea, Prince Edward and Chillfresh.
