Leading companies from the Turkish seafood industry attending Seafood Expo Global/Seafood Processing Global in Brussels will exhibit products at Booths 2101, 2201 and 2301, organized by the nation’s General Secretariat of Istanbul Exporters’ Associations. Their joint theme at the April 25-27 is: “Turkey: Discover the Potential.”
Among supplies of frozen, chilled and fresh sea bass, sea bream, trout and other species who will be present are: Akuvatur Mediterranean Fish, Agromey Fish, Bal-Pi Gida, Basaran Balikcilik, Camli Yem Besicilik, Gumusdoga Fish, Group Sagun, Kilic Seafood Co., Kopuzmar/Lucky Fish, Liman Entegre, Neta Seafood, Sagdiclar, Balikcilik, Sastas S.A., Sasu Water and Agricultural Products and SeckiknBalikcilik-Hydro Fish Group.
Rich in fishery diversity, Turkey is surrounded by four seas – the Black Sea in the north, the Marmara Sea in the northwest, the Aegean in the west and the Mediterranean in the south. Inland resources are also very plentiful as there are 175 kilometers of rivers, 1 million hectares of natural lakes, 170,000 hectares of reservoirs, 70,000 hectares of lagoons and 700 small reservoirs.
The nation boasts 8,333 kilometers of coastline along the continents of Asia and Europe. Owing to its geographical location, Turkey has a major advantage and great potential in terms of fish, as its fishery products and production area of seafood exceeds 26 million hectares. Total annual fishery output, which includes fresh water harvests, is approximately 800,000 tons. During the past decade, aquaculture production has increased significantly.
Turkey’s foreign trade of the fish and fishery products sector runs a surplus. The main export markets are the European Union, Japan and the USA.
