Dozens of frozen food industry executives gathered virtually from May 10-12 for the American Frozen Food Institute’s (AFFI) Government Action Summit to discuss the contributions of frozen food and promote science-based public policy solutions that will address the most pressing issues facing the industry and its consumers.
“Frozen food provides millions of American families with abundant choices for safe, delicious, nutritious and convenient food year-round,” said AFFI president and CEO, Alison Bodor. “AFFI and our member organizations take that responsibility seriously. That’s why we came together to meet with policymakers and advocate for responsible solutions that embrace sound science and a transparent regulatory process, to fight food insecurity and to help ensure the continued availability of frozen food products that consumers trust and enjoy.”
During more than 50 meetings with Congressional offices and key committees, AFFI members discussed food safety issues, including the need for science- and risk-based approaches to food safety that reduce regulatory barriers while advancing public health. AFFI members also shared the role of frozen food in tackling hunger, nutrition insecurity and food waste through federal feeding programs and nutrition policies. In addition, AFFI members shared their strategies for mitigating supply chain disruptions with the goal of keeping frozen foods on America’s tables.
AFFI’s Government Action Summit is an annual event that brings together frozen food leaders from around the country to meet with policymakers in Washington, DC.
“The Government Action Summit provides the frozen food industry with a unique opportunity to share their story with members of Congress and communicate how the policies coming from Capitol Hill will shape their business. AFFI is pleased to bring together those perspectives and ensure that the voice of frozen is heard during the legislative process,” stated Bodor.
