Add another food exhibition to the lengthening list of trade show casualties claimed by novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) pandemic, as Vietfish 2020 will not take place. This year’s running, which was set for August 25-28 in Ho Chi Minh City, has now been rescheduled for August 25-27, 2021, at the Saigon Exhibition and Convention Center.

In a statement issued on June 30, the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP) organizer commented: “Despite some reopening measures nationally and locally, there are still far too many uncertainties about the impact Covid-19 will have on travel and mass gatherings this August. In order to ensure the public health and the efficiency of the exhibition, we regret the decision to cancel Vietfish 2020.”

Meanwhile, the twice-postponed Vietshrimp Aquaculture International Fair 2020 has been rescheduled for October 7-9 in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho. It is co-hosted by the Vietnam Fisheries Association and the Can Tho Department of Industry and Trade.

Elsewhere in Asia, the Japan International Seafood and Technology Expo is expected to take place in Tokyo from September 30-October 2. Due to concern over the spread of Covid-19, it will not be open to exhibitors traveling from abroad. However, overseas exhibitors with established offices and personnel in Japan will be allowed to participate.
