As usual, Vossko GmbH & Co. KG was present at the Anuga show in Hall 9, where the world’s leading poultry and red meat purveyors meet and greet. And also as usual, the Ostbevern, Germany-headquartered company had plenty of chicken, turkey, beef and minced pork products to show and tell visitors about.
But lo and behold, there were also several meat-free, soya-based retail items to see and sample. Now that was something new, indeed!
“These products are making their debut here at the fair,” announced Josef Knappheide, retail sales manager, as he presented three 240-gram retail packs of Soja-Schnitzel, -Nuggets and -Strips to members of the FrozenFoodsBiz.com team. The content of each box was said to be enough for two servings.
“After conducting a number of taste tests, the consensus is that the flavor is as close to chicken meat as you can get with soya ingredients,” stated Knappheide. “The products have been well received by non-vegetarians, and this is the key consumer segment that we will be targeting.”
Vossko’s marketing team figures that it can position its “Soja” line to successfully compete not only with chilled soy-based faux meat items, but also to appeal to meat eaters who would consider dining on non-meat dishes once or twice a week – if only they can find alternatives that are both tasty and filling. That’s exactly what it believes it now has to offer.
“Chilled products that currently cater to this segment in Germany are relatively expensive. Our approach will be to offer consumers a frozen choice that is reasonably priced, costing no more than chicken versions – be they schnitzels, nuggets or strips,” said Knappheide.
