Windsor Foods has announced plans to shut down its factory in Tulsa, Oklahoma, eliminating approximately 70 jobs. The Houston, Texas, USA-headquartered company manufactures a wide range frozen ethnic Mexican, Asian and Italian recipe dishes, appetizers, meats and chili at numerous locations in the USA under brand names including José Olé, Ling Ling, Tai Pei, Bernardi, Golden Tiger, The Original Chili Bowl, Posada, Cripple Creek, Fred’s for Starters, Whitey’s Chili and VIP Foods.
“As part of a strategic initiative to build on its competitiveness and market leadership, Windsor Foods has made the difficult but necessary business decision to close the Tulsa, Oklahoma, production facility,” the company said in a statement. “Production at the plant will end in mid- to late-September, and we will be working with our employees in the coming weeks on severance and benefit plans and outplacement services.”
The family-owned company closed another factory last year, shutting down an operation in Riverside, California, that specialized in frozen Mexican lines.
Windsor Foods has grown from several food companies acquired from Keebler in 1996, to a company that today employs nearly 2,500 people at 13 locations across the country from California to Pennsylvania. In addition to packing branded retail and private label products, it supplies foodservice customers with custom-made dishes ranging from pasta and lasagna to appetizers and snacks.
