Marking its 60th year in business during 2015, the Yearsley Group is celebrating the diamond anniversary by raising £60,000 to support worthy charities throughout the United Kingdom.
“Our aim is to split £20k between our 13 depot’s local good causes, with the remaining £40k shared between our national charities – Parkinson’s UK, British Heart Foundation, Cancer Research and Help for Heroes,” said Harry Yearsley, managing director of the Heywood, UK-headquartered company. “All of our staff are being encouraged to raise money, and activities planned so far include everything from distance events such as bike rides and the Yorkshire 3 Peaks, to dirty events like Tough Mudder and sponsored slims!”
Having started out in 1955 wholesaling fresh fruit and vegetables in England from a site in Rochdale, Greater Manchester, the Yearsley family could never have dreamed that the business would grow into the £190 million annual turnover frozen food sales and logistics provider it is today.
A brief history shows the company moving from fresh food into the wholesaling of frozen products in the early 70’s, followed by the building of a coldstore that was transformed into a public refrigerated warehousing operation by the late ’70s.
Since then each part of the business has grown both organically and by acquisition. The food division is now one of the largest independent frozen food distributors to all sectors of the domestic marketplace. As well as being the UK’s largest frozen logistics provider, the logistics division has added global and ambient divisions to offer clients complete supply chain solutions.
