Ahoy there, matey! Long John Silver’s (LJS), the Louisville, Kentucky-headquartered quick service restaurant chain that specializes in seafood, is celebrating Talk Like a Pirate Day on September 19 by giving customers who talk like pirates a free fish tender. Those who dress like a pirate will fare even better, getting a two-piece fish tender basket at no charge.

pirate-newLong John Silver’s, which operates more than 1,100 franchisee-owned restaurants and employs approximately 8,400 people worldwide, is named after the most colorful character in author Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic pirate tale, Treasure Island.

In addition to free food, Long John Silver’s is encouraging restaurant employees to decorate and dress up for the occasion. Customers might even discover a pirate taking their order. At ljsilvers.com/tlap, visitors can claim their new pirate identity with the pirate name generator.

“We never take ourselves too seriously, and Talk Like a Pirate Day is the perfect chance to be playful and have fun with our pirate heritage,” said Margo Mize, senior vice president of marketing.

Meanwhile, Peter Czizek, the company’s executive vice president of culinary innovation, is overseeing development of a number of new products for 2016 that will supplement Long John Silver’s fried Alaskan pollock, shrimp, fish tacos, seafood salad, hushpuppies and other menu pleasers.

“There is a huge opportunity adapt seafood flavor profiles that are coming from Europe and Asia,” he said. “Bigger, bolder flavor is what you can look forward to seeing.”
